This place is all frozen and bread. The fries don't look greasy but you will need a ton of napkins. The burgers were gross and we ended up throwing our food in the trash. Thus, the lack of time spent on this review.

Finally wandered in here on the Saturday of the July 4th weekend. Without a doubt, Devon made this visit special. Walked in & were greeted by everyone, I told Devon it was my first visit , could I have the highlights of the menu board, This Young man knew his menus, product very well. He took the time to explain the free items & perks. Plus the fry sizes to save room for a malt or shake. I ordered the Firecracker 2 Pattie burger Jalapeno cheese, jalapenos , jalapeno bacon, grilled onions, wayback sauce & grilled mushrooms Moist & very fresh. The fries...MEH...If I'm going to eat a fry I prefer natural cut.

3 stars for average. When you order keep in mind everything is a la carte , no combo Meals, kids just assume they get fries and a drink. The servers seem unhappy the two times I've been in there. Both times there was a continuous loud banging noise back near the grill, not sure if the were cutting fries or cleaning the grill, either way very annoying. The burgers, ehh average. If I'm looking for a step above fast food, I'll stick with 5 guys or Burgerz in this area.

The food was really fresh and reasonably priced. The cheese fries were amazing, they were loaded with cheese and reminded me of a poor mans Aussie Fries from Outback! I don't know why the only two in Michigan are in Rochester, because I can definitely see myself coming more often if it were in Plymouth or Novi.

Pretty decent burger - really! They are A-OK for sure. I really like their shakes. I recommend trying them in addition to a couple other nearby (Knapps, Burgrz, and 5 guys). Personally I like some of the others better - but make up your own mind. It is always fun to try different ideas of a burger!

I'm really torn about how to review this place. In one sense, it's not so bad, but in another sense, I wasn't overly impressed. I wanted to like this place, but can't come up with one particular reason why I'm not in love with their food. For starters, the bun's are delicious. Some kind of egg bun that tastes really good. You can build your own burger, plus, they have some standard menu options that I've tried in the past. BBQ flavor, Jalapeno style, a traditional burger, etc. What I don't like is that everything is a la carte. No combo specials here. Once you add stuff up, it can be very expensive for what their offering. The burgers themselves run about $5 to $6 depending on what kind you get. But, after you factor in fries or onion rings ($3.49 each!) and a drink, it runs you about $15 for a standard dinner here. If you get the home made chips their only $1.99.That seems a bit pricey to me for a fast casual dinner that I can get for half the price. For the same price, I'd rather go to Smash Burger a few miles down the road and eat their food because I think it's better. I went with a burger with BBQ sauce, home made chips and a medium drink and walked away spending just under $11. I was full when I left, and the food was not half bad. I find this place to be mediocre at best, on a good day. Nothing impressive to me.

I will start by saying that I have had my share of hamburgers. I also fancy myself as a hamburger chef. I really enjoyed the Wayback Burger experience. The restaurant was clean. The staff greeted me at the door. Keep in mind it was roughly noon and there wasn't really a lunch crowd on that fateful Friday afternoon. The menu was very simple and I found exactly what I wanted right away. I purchased the delectable BBQ crunch burger. I love my burgers and sandwiches alike to have some crunch. This burger had a hand made patty, house made BBQ chips, cheese and some delightfully tangy BBQ sauce on it. I was scared I would make a huge mess all over my 2 year old Chinos, but alas, it was a perfect build of a great burger. Unlike other burger joints (5 guys in particular), the Wayback Burger wasn't inundated with grease and crazy amounts of toppings. The burger had just the right amount of toppings to add the awesome flavor the chefs strive for. The burger was perfectly cooked and was still quite juicy even though there wasn't a ton of grease dripping from the tray. My wife and I shared an order of onion rings. We chose the Lumberjack Sauce for dipping. It's basically a mix of the tangy BBQ sauce and mustard. I have to say the rings were awesome. The sauce was a great compliment to the deep fried treat. The weighed in at an astonishing $4, but the serving size and taste was enough to justify the cost. All in all, we spent roughly $24 for a couple burgers, an order of rings and a couple pops. Not too shabby for a hand made burger. I'd go back. ~ pickle

Being gluten free ( medical) I try to expand my circle of trusted eateries Today I stopped in for lunch ..first time... asking if I could order a plain burger no bun make clear it must be gluten free I was told no Then I inquired if I could order anything here and the response was maybe fries.... Come.... On. Dudes get with it .... Message to the owners Hire 16 year olds pay them nothing and expect the business to thrive... Heads up It doesn't work that way.... Food no comment However I did drive down the road to Rams Horn where one can always find well prepared food and a well trained staff... Always.

Pizza delivery guy gets his takeout here. In the mood for a hamburger, so we thought we'd check this place out as they advertised a deal on the Jake Cheeseburger. Made to order type of place - burgers, dogs, chicken, even salads. 50's music didn't really do much for the atmosphere. TV's with Tiger's game on was appreciated. As for the food - nothing special. Not as good as Five Guys. Not as many choices as Smashburger. Better than the fast food places. Service was friendly, but not especially fast. They bring it to you so you're not standing around or waiting to hear them yell your name. They got my son's order wrong, but quickly replaced it. For some reason, it happens to him a lot - I guess some people can't believe that someone would order a burger without cheese. Milkshake of Month is Cherry Chocolate. That was good. Would I go back? Probably. Would I choose this over Five Guys? - never.

Okay so I'm not giving this place 3 stars based on food alone. I'll start by saying the food is good, not great just good. I've had burgers that are better for a better price. The onion rings taste like they are fried in old oil (maybe I'm just super picky). But I the biggest reason why I am giving them 3 stars is simply because of the cleanliness of the place. Simple things go a long way, like brooming the floor, and making sure there is no trash laying around. If you can't keep the floors clean how clean are your tables? Also I wish the staff would smile and look a little friendlier and more welcoming.

Great Burger! Got the double burger and a side of fries. Meat is fresh, not frozen served on a super fresh bun. Fries are out of this world good. If you are by yourself get the side of fries a full order is good for two or three people. In my opinion the burger is better than Five Guys. Five guys fries are not that great in my opinion, so Wayback wins there by a landslide. I recommend this for a great burger fix.

There's a gentle and fragile ranking of burger joints, but the main two factions are fast food, and not so fast food. This place is in the higher quality level of not so fast food. Wayback for me lies between the highest rank of fast food (Wendy's) and lowest rank of not so fast food (Five Guys). My main attraction to this place is that it's so close to my place that I can almost get my WiFi. I was quite turned off at the fact that I had to wait 20 minutes for my burger. There were about 10 people working behind the counter, and only maybe 3 of them were working (much to the chagrin of the manager). There seemed to be some debate as to what constituted my small fry, because the manager dumped them out and made them make a new, smaller batch. The wait was redeemed by an above average burger. It was very fresh and the best part was how well the cheese was melted into the burger. It was so infused that I almost couldn't see it. Invisible cheese! Quite good. The fries are kind of average, though. They don't have the fresh cut edge of a place like Five Guys or Penn Station. They have shakes here too, but I'm lactose intolerant, so, you know... All in all, this is a step up from fast food, but they don't have that killer "omg, you have to get this" item on their menu.

One honest review, coming right up! Went last night for the first time. Arrived at about 7:30. When we got there, there were only a few people seated. You are immediately directed to the counter to order. I checked out the limmited menu and ordered the equivalent of a bacon barbecue cheeseburger but no bacon instead potato chips on it, onion rings and a regular size fountain drink. you get a choice of sauces with your onion rings. I don't remember all the names, but the one that I got was, golden something or other (fancy sauce). When asked I was told it was BBQ and mustard mixed together. I didn't really pay much attention to their prices or anything else when I walked up as I was pretty hungry. when the, zit faced kid told me my bill total, I almost shit! $13 something for a burger, onion rings and a pop. I had no idea what to expect, Was I about to get a two pound burger??? I did see the sign for the disgustingly obscene 9 patty mess that they seem quite proud of... we shall see. I was now shoved a receipt and asked to sit down and wait for my food. this is when I really noticed that the restaurant was friggin filthy. The floors were strewn with food, napkins and straw wrappers. The pop machine looked sticky and covered with crap. Not a clean table in the joint. I had to grab the attention of one of the zombies and ask him to clear and wipe a table for me. I later notice that the same guy who cleaned my table with the bottle of spray and whatever he was wiping it with was wearing some vinyl gloves, and now he was prepping food with the same gloves. It's nothing but chaos behind the counter where they're making your food and the way that they wrap your hamburger in front of everyone in the open air on the counter ala Coldstone is kind of disgusting. Basically someone could be standing there sneezing their ass off and it would be all over your food and several other people's food. The employees also have a strange hamburger inspection ritual that I witnessed several times; holding the hamburger up in front of their faces twirling it around as if they were checking for quality? I dunno what the hell they were doing but it was not appealing in the least to see it happening to my food before it was brought to me. Going up to get my pop, of course everything was sparsely stocked. It was a real chore to find a straw, the right lid for my paper cup, of which there were very few. For the price I sure expected a larger cup. Anyway, Our food came out. The burger was fine. it was not hard or over or under cooked and it was juicy enough, but my friend and I were trying to figure out where all the cost was. The hamburger was no bigger than something from Burger King. We estimated we got about seven bucks worth of food for over $13 each. Because Bibbers ordered a shake instead of a drink, his fast food was over $15 bones!!! Any redeeming quality of the meal was overshadowed by the exuberant cost. As Bibbers put it, " fast food meal at entree prices". Combine the crazy prices, the average burger and the dirty ass restaurant and I will not be back. I don't see how this place is going to last more than a few more months. Although it was a little tough to capture without looking like a tool, I did manage to snap a few photos that you can see posted here. Oh and by the way, the perverted 9 patty abomination burger is $14.99!

This place is an overpriced Wendy's. Dudes working here seemed miserable and not the friendliest. Burger was completely average and tasteless. Would never go back.

Went here for lunch on a weekday in Dec 2013. Bought the Double Bacon Jake (I think). Probably one of the great local burgers around Rochester - and possibly better then Hamlin Pub - but not cheaper. My major hangup with this joint was price. It's seemed like I paid 13+$ for a burger and fries. That's too much. Still a good burger - if you have the cash.

My wife and I went there early this afternoon and were anxious to try a new place. The first question we asked is "do you have gluten free items available/". There were 2 employees there and neither one had a clue and one even said "I don't think so". It was almost like they didn't know what we were talking about or had no idea about how to answer the question. On that basis "we just walked out" and "will never come back". In this day and age you would expect any food establishment to know about allergens and to have trained employees who are knowledgeable of the menu or willing to provide accommodations to it. Inexcusable!

Tried this chain location last Saturday with my wife and young child. Seemed awesome and pretty much what I had hoped for. I ordered a cheesy double burger with bacon "Jake's Way" with lettuce tomato onion mayo mustard. Burger was fresh tasting and quite enjoyable...bacon was somewhat floppy and tasted good. Onion rings as a side were exactly how I love them - thick cut with a hearty but not too heavy breading. My daughter had a junior cheeseburger and a junior (cute and appropriate size for a 3 year old) strawberry shake. My wife ordered a veggie burger, which was quite good. She also had a junior chocolate cherry shake. We were very happy with the meal....total cost seemed OK, about $25 and I didn't mind the wait....maybe 10 minutes but it was all cooked to order and damn tasty. Not fast food in my opinion, just another chain burger joint where I could consume a hefty amount of calories and improve my sense of self-worth. I am so glad this burger joint replaced Crust and will definitely return soon.

My husband and I tried this place on opening day. We had no idea what to expect from the chain, whether it was a step above McDonalds or something closer to Fuddrucker's. Turns out it's more on the fast food end of the spectrum. Five Guys would be a peer. The menu is a bit limited, but they do have a Sandwich of the Month as well as a Shake of the Month. You can also build your own burger with some fairly standard options. We kept it simple: I ordered a Cheesy Burger and a small ("Junior") chocolate banana shake, and he got a chili cheese dog with fries. The hot dog was perfectly average. It was absolutely fine, but nothing special. The fries were good. The burger was very nice. It was juicy and flavorful and had none of the hockey puckness that categorize stamped and flash-frozen patties like Red Robin serves. The shake was delicious and contained actual chunks of actual banana. The Junior size is very small -- six ounces at a guess -- which was a bit of a surprise but is actually a good size for a small treat. Bottom line: It's not nirvana. Nobody spontaneously recreated the famous scene from "When Harry Met Sally", at least not while we were dining. But the food was reasonably priced, reasonably fast, and it's within walking distance of home. They're also open every night until ten, which is nice when you tend to eat late. We'll be back.

For 2 burgers and an order of onion rings, it was over $15! Are you kidding me? The burgers were good, but on the greasy side. The service wasn't very good - the manager (or owner) older gentleman anyhow, rang me up and wasn't too friendly, kinda abrupt. There are a bunch of kids making your burger and they are laughing and joking around which is okay but the cooking area is completely open - didn't want to sit there and eat because of that and it didn't appear to be very clean. I wouldn't go back.

Let me start by saying that I know I probably should not get a turkey burger in a burger joint...but I did...and it was good. The atmosphere is kinda hectic and loud in this burger diner. Not the place for a business meeting or casual meal, but a good spot to grab some quick (well, fairly quick) food.

Jake, you broke my heart when you discontinued the California burger. As an avid avocado lover, I might just have to start bringing my own and adding it in. Though a little on the pricey end, I went here three times in a two-week span to keep experiencing what I would rate as "less greasy than Five Guys, but more expensive than fast food" burger. You've probably seen this comparison drawn in other reviews but to give it some perspective, my girlfriend and I typically spend around $20 here for two burgers and a plate of fries, which is definitely enough food. The delivery service to the table is also a nice touch, because the last thing I want to do is have to get up for my 1000-calorie burger and palette of fries. It's practically dead there in the evenings, so service is fast, but given that the burgers do takes 5 - 7 minutes to make, I could anticipate slowdowns during heavy periods. I do hope Jake's sticks around as it's nice to have an alternative to the myocardial-nemesis that is Five Guys (I like their burgers, too).

food was very good. the full portion of fries is huge, but we all agreed they could use some sort of seasoning. all of our burgers were delicious, especially the bbq burger. kids loved the shakes. we all left happy and very full!!!

I was debating whether to give the place two or three stars. Being a fair man, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The turkey burger was not as good as The Fly Trap, Honey Tree at the Somerset Collection, or Little Daddy's. It was slightly greasy and lacked seasoning. I could pretty much tell that the hamburgers are on a par with Smashburger, greasy and unseasoned but ok. The homemade chips were good. The fries, onion rings, and shakes seemed to be enjoyed by other guests. You went up to the counter to order and they brought it to your table in about ten minutes. Timing was about the same for the five or so parties there at the time. Since I live in Troy, I doubt that I will be returning, but it is not as disgusting as Five Guys.

Just ok. fresh, yes. original, no. they skimped on the decor--nothing cute or interesting about this place. you would think they would have a diner theme, but they cheaped out and have no theme. cheap cheap cheap. i bet it will be closed in a year.
